RNLI Brighton Lifeboat assists man after Pier jump.
The crew of a local fishing boat watched as a member of the public threw a lifering to the man after he jumped fully clothed from Brighton Pier into the sea yesterday (Saturday 6th February).
The crew of the fishing vessel 'Blue Moon' didn't see the man jump but on seeing the lifering they made way for the area.

Christopher Reeves of Shoreham, the skipper of the fishing vessel said: "Initially the man was hesitant to come aboard but eventually he agreed to." Christopher and his crew hauled the man aboard and made way for Brighton Marina.

A member of the Pier staff had called for an ambulance to attend the marina.

RNLI Brighton Lifeboat launched to assist man's rescuers and met the group as they entered the marina. The casualty was assisted with blankets and oxygen until an ambulance arrived.

Hypothermic but alert he was also suffering from neck and back pain, as such he was transferred to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for ongoing care.

A spokesman for Brighton Lifeboat said "With sea temperatures approaching the lowest of the year the man was lucky to have been spotted by the fishing crew and recovered as quickly as he was".
